AUS vs IND | Twitter awestruck as Gill breaks free of dragging struggle with sensational maximum

Be it a Rahul Dravid or Cheteshwar Pujara, T20 cricket compels the classiest of batters to break free of all inhibitions and smash the ball.
Shubman Gill does not particularly belong to the same bracket as a modern batter, but let go of all polish to strike a big hit on the Gold Coast.India endured an uncharacteristically slow powerplay in the fourth T20I against Australia, at the Carrara Oval, managing just 49 runs in the six overs despite losing no wickets. Abhishek Sharma’s struggles ended soon after for a 21-ball 28 but his opening partner Shubman Gill’s dragged on as the vice-captain struggled to garner any rhythm. By the end of the 13th over, Gill managed just 37 off 33 deliveries and with lots of batting still to come, the time had already gone to pull the trigger. The 26-year-old decided better late than never and the result was brlliant.

The Men from Down Under brought on Marcus Stoinis who with his clever changes of pace eked out a couple of dot balls to frustrate Gill further. However, as soon as the next ball left the all-rounder’s hand, Gill cleared his front leg and executed a full blooded swing across his body against the delivery in the slot. The Kookaburra met the mead of the bat perfectly and almost sprung of it to soar into the sky towards midwicket, comfortably clearing the ropes and fence to land far into the crowd.

Unfortunately for Gill, it turned out to be his last boundary as he holed out the very next over.
