Australia vs England: Australia’s star bowler Mitchell Starc has hit two birds with one stone. He did this feat by taking the wicket of Joe Root in the first Test of Ashes 2025 being played in Perth. Meaning, they hunted Root, shot arrows at him and the two targets he hit were two major successes. Australian captain Steve Smith was disappointed when he got the bowling after losing the toss in the Perth Test. He wanted to bat first. But, Starc made his captain Steve Smith, who was looking dejected, happy with his deadly spell in the first session.
Mitchell Starc cast a deadly spell
Mitchell Starc bowled his first spell of 6 overs in the first session. In those 6 overs, he bowled 3 maiden overs and took 3 wickets for 17 runs. He dismissed England’s opener Jack Crowley without opening the account on the last ball of the first over of the match. Starc took his second wicket in the Perth Test in the form of Ben Duckett. The third victim he made was Joe Root and like Crowley, he too was sent to the pavilion without opening the account.
Hit 2 targets by dismissing Joe Root
Mitchell Starc achieved two big successes simultaneously by dismissing Joe Root. Firstly, he completed his 100 wickets in the history of Ashes. And secondly, he equaled Sir Curtly Ambrose of West Indies in the count of Test wickets.
Completed 100 wickets in Ashes
Mitchell Starc, playing his 23rd Ashes Test, completed his 100 wickets at an average of 26.65. He is the 20th overall and 13th Australian bowler to take 100 or more wickets in the Ashes.
Did this amazing thing 2980 balls ago
Along with taking his 100th wicket in the Ashes, Mitchell Starc also equaled Curtly Ambrose’s Test wickets. Both the players now have 405-405 wickets. However, Starc is a little faster than Ambrose in reaching so many wickets. He achieved this success by bowling 2980 balls less than Ambrose.
