His problems have recently been compounded by a legal defeat involving HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which has ordered Collingwood to pay back taxes of £196,000 (about Rs 2 crore). This matter is related to the use of PDC Rights by a personal services company.
Collingwood was accused of reducing the tax bill by showing the earnings related to sponsorship deals as corporate earnings. In this case, it was ordered that the income earned from brands like Slazenger and Clydesdale Bank will be considered self-employment income and not corporate income. Although this former player had appealed against this decision, but he lost.
