Varanasi Police arrested seven people who were making illegal extortion money from devotees in the name of easy darshan in Kashi Vishwanath temple. The accused were caught with the help of CCTV footage on charges of misbehavior and extortion, police registered a case under sections of BNS.

These days, the crowd of devotees in Kashi, the city of reverence, is increasing to such an extent that the vigilance of the administration is being tested at every step. Amidst this atmosphere, a case came to light which shocked the devotees, the entire game of illegal extortion in the name of Sugam Darshan was exposed. The police took action on this entire network and arrested seven people.

The game of arbitrary recovery under the guise of easy darshan exposed

The police were continuously receiving complaints regarding Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple that some people extort arbitrary money from the devotees coming from India and abroad by luring them for Tez Darshan. In the investigation of several complaints, it became clear that some people around the temple premises were illegally extorting money by claiming to be helpful.

Not only this, many devotees had also informed the police about misbehavior and extortion of money. In view of the increasing complaints, Dashashwamedh police intensified action on the basis of CCTV footage and informer’s information.

Seven people arrested from Bamboo Gate area

The police team raided and arrested seven accused from Bans Phatak area. The arrested accused include-

  1. Ganesh Jaiswal (22), resident of Tedhi Neem.
  2. Aman Kumar (22), resident of Hirawanpur, Sindhaura.
  3. Kailashnath Pandey, resident of Lahartara, Manduadih
  4. Ritesh Pandey (20), resident of Badi Piari
  5. Waheed Ahmed (42), resident of Baradev, Godaulia.
  6. Rambali Bind (25), resident Sankul Ghara Pokhara
  7. Ravi Pandey (21), resident of Dhelwariya water tank

The police have detained everyone from the spot and started further legal action.

Dashashwamedh police station in-charge Upendra Pratap Singh said that these people used to mislead the devotees in the name of easy darshan in Kashi Vishwanath temple, misbehave with them and extort money illegally. All the accused have been arrested under section 170/126/135 of BNS and legal action is being taken.

Increasing number of devotees and increasing illegal network

After Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor, the number of devotees in the temple has increased manifold. Taking advantage of this crowd, some people start making illegal money by calling themselves ‘helpers’. This action of the police is being considered as a big attack on such networks.
