Major bank unions across the country have called for a nationwide strike on February 12, 2026 (Thursday). This may create confusion among many people whether banks will remain open on 12th February. Many customers would be curious to know whether they can schedule their banking on that day? Bank of Baroda has informed BSE about the possible impact of the strike. However, the big question is whether banks will remain open or closed on February 12, 2026 due to the nationwide bank strike.
Which bank organizations called for strike?
Major bank organizations like All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) have called on their members and units along with 10 central trade unions (CTUs) to join the nationwide general strike on February 12, 2026. The call to join the strike is to protest against four new labor codes notified by the government in November, which will replace the existing 29 labor laws, and also to protest ‘increasing attacks on the working class’.
According to the letter written by the bank bodies to their units and employees, the proposed labor codes are completely anti-workers and set stringent conditions for registration of trade unions. Bank unions have been fighting for work life balance for a long time and are demanding a five-day work week.
Will banks be open or closed on 12th February?
No major bank or Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a holiday on February 12, 2026, so the chances of banks remaining open on that day are high. However, Bank of Baroda has submitted a precautionary note to BSE, informing the stock exchange that there may be work disruptions in its branches and offices if the strike continues as scheduled.
What information did Bank Baroda give to BSE?

In case of a strike, the functioning of branches and offices may be affected. The letter further states that the bank has received the notice of strike given by AIBEA, AIBOA and BEFI.
