Gaza City: The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza deepened further on Tuesday, with at least 15 more Palestinians, including four children, dying from starvation and malnutrition within a span of 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry in the besieged territory. These latest deaths have pushed the total toll from hunger-related causes to 101 since October 2023, with 80 of the victims being children.
Palestinian activists have reported disturbing scenes over the past week, documenting cases of individuals collapsing in the streets due to hunger. Journalists covering the crisis from inside Gaza have also confirmed witnessing such incidents firsthand. Some even said that they themselves are enduring hunger as the blockade continues.
Children, pregnant women starving
Since March 2, Israel has completely sealed off all border crossings into Gaza, preventing the entry of essential supplies including food, medicine and humanitarian assistance According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, the situation is especially dire for the most vulnerable: an estimated 650,000 children face the threat of starvation, while nearly 60,000 pregnant women are at serious risk due to the absence of proper nutrition and healthcare.
The ongoing Israeli military campaign, launched in October 2023, has so far claimed over 59,000 Palestinian lives — a majority of them women and children. The offensive has not only devastated infrastructure and crippled the healthcare system but also plunged the enclave into a severe food crisis, with famine-like conditions reported in several areas.
