Asian Wrestling Championships 2026: India Secure Top-Three Finish With 20 Medals, Including 4 Gold Medal

Indian wrestlers finished the Under-20 Asian Wrestling Championships with 20 medals, including four gold, seven silver and nine bronze.

India also secured top-three team finishes in women’s wrestling and men’s freestyle, while the Greco-Roman squad added to the overall tally at the same event.

India finished second in women’s wrestling with 184 points, behind China’s 189 and ahead of Japan’s 142. Parveen (50kg), Muskan (53kg) and Kajal (76kg) won gold. Parveen beat Uzbekistan’s Shokhista Shonazarova 13-2, Muskan edged Japan’s Mai Ogawa 6-5, and Kajal blanked Japan’s Mahiru Fujita 5-0.

Manya Rajput (57kg), Savita (62kg) and Manisha (72kg) won silver after losing their finals to Chinese opponents. In the bronze playoffs, Kajal (55kg) beat Uzbekistan’s Sakibjamal Esbosynova by fall, Komal (59kg) defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Akylai Chynybaeva 12-0 on technical superiority, and Mansi Lather (65kg) beat Korea’s Yeonwoo Song 13-2.

Men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman results

In men’s freestyle, India finished third with 152 points, behind Kazakhstan on 170 and Iran on 164. Sumit Kumar Laxman Bharaskar won India’s only gold in the 70kg class, beating Kazakhstan’s Sungkar Seidakhmet 13-7. Pushp (61kg), Saurabh Yadav (79kg) and Ronak (125kg) took silver, while Rohit (57kg), Adarsh Yuvraj Patil (74kg) and Lacky (97kg) won bronze.

In Greco-Roman, Akshay Rana took silver in the 97kg category after losing 0-8 to Iran’s Amirsam Behnam Mohammadi in the final. Neeraj Patel (55kg), Anuj (67kg) and Dheeraj Kumar Malik (67kg) won bronze in their playoff bouts. Before the U-20 event, India also won 21 medals at the U-15 Asian Wrestling Championships at the same venue.
