Indian Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain secured another boxing medal for India at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the women’s 75kg quarterfinal on Monday.
Lovlina registered a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision victory over the 2010 Asian Games bronze medallist to book her place in the semifinal.
The Indian boxer started strongly as both fighters exchanged punches in the opening round. Lovlina had the edge throughout, and all five judges awarded her the round.
Seong returned with an attacking approach in the second round, but Lovlina handled the pressure well. She moved away from her opponent’s punches and responded with accurate counters to extend her lead.
The Indian continued to control the bout in the final round, landing a series of quick combinations and keeping Seong under pressure. Lovlina again received the judges’ unanimous verdict to complete a 30-27 victory.
With the win, Lovlina has assured India of another medal in boxing at the ongoing Asian Games. She will now compete in the women’s 75kg semifinal. Lovlina’s victory comes after Parveen Hooda also secured a medal for India in the women’s 65kg category on Sunday.
Parveen defeated Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova, a World Championships silver medallist, by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the quarterfinal. She won all three rounds to advance to the semifinal.
In the men’s 80kg category, Ankush Panghal had also booked a medal for India after defeating Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov 5-0 in his quarterfinal.
