BCCI vs PCB: Important discussions were held in the Dubai board meeting of ICC on the Asia Cup 2025 trophy dispute and the expansion of Women’s Cricket World Cup 2029. India won its ninth Asia Cup by defeating Pakistan in Dubai, but the team is yet to receive the trophy.
Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Dispute: In the ICC Dubai Board meeting, important discussions were held on the Asia Cup 2025 trophy dispute and the expansion of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2029, the Olympics and the appointment of Mithali Raj to the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee. India registered its ninth Asia Cup win by defeating Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on 28 September 2025. But, at the post-match ceremony, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy and winners’ medal from PCB chief and Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi. BCCI raised this issue in the ICC meeting.
What happened in the meeting regarding Asia Cup trophy?
During this, all the ICC board members emphasized that India and Pakistan are important for the world of cricket and the dispute between them should be resolved peacefully. After this a committee was formed so that this matter could be resolved as soon as possible and India could take its trophy.
India-Pakistan Asia Cup trophy dispute
Under the leadership of Indian team captain Suryakumar Yadav, India defeated Salman Agha’s Pakistan team by five wickets. But due to cross-border tension the team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. Because of this, India had to celebrate its victory without the trophy. The BCCI made a formal request to resolve the matter, but the dispute still persists.
Number of teams in Women’s Cricket World Cup 2029
ICC has also announced that the Women’s ODI World Cup 2029 will be expanded from 8 to 10 teams. India won its first International Women’s Cricket Trophy by defeating South Africa in Navi Mumbai on 2 November 2025. About 3 lakh fans watched the match in the stadium. New record increases in TV and online viewership. About 5 crore viewers watched this match in India. ICC said, ‘In view of the success of the tournament, the ICC Board has decided to increase the next World Cup to 10 teams.’
Mithali Raj appointed to ICC committee
ICC Board appointed Mithali Raj to the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee. This step is being considered a big step towards the development of women’s cricket and encouraging young talent.
