Asia Cup 2025: India’s star batter Shubman Gill has returned to attending practice sessions after giving the first round of the ongoing Duleep Trophy a miss.
The youngster should have captained the North Zone team during this tournament. But he was suffering from viral fever and had to miss it.
Gill, who has been picked as India’s vice-captain for the upcoming continental tournament, was supposed to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence before going to Dubai. But a video had gone viral on social media, which shows that he has already started preparing for the tournament. It should be noted here that he was seen facing a left-arm fast bowler, and it was his way of preparing himself to play against arch-nemesis Pakistan.
According to an earlier report of The Times of India, Gill should have reached Bengaluru on Friday and begun practicing at the BCCI’s COE ahead of the upcoming continental tournament. Post recovering from a viral infection, he had to undergo a routine assessment to prepare himself.
The report further revealed that Gill had attended two gym sessions in Mohali and attended a batting session on Thursday. Owing to incessant rains in Northern India, Gill had a hard time practicing at proper facilities, which are located in his hometown.
There are high chances that Gill may fly from Bengaluru directly since a few players from India’s Asia Cup team had already reported there. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will fly to Dubai next week for the upcoming tournament, which is set to begin on September 9.
Initial reports had also revealed that a few star players were either seen in action during the Duleep Trophy or were undergoing routine tests.
The team India players would be going to Dubai in batches from different cities instead of all of them going to Mumbai before flying to Dubai. This decision was taken keeping logistical settings in mind and taking care of the travel convenience of the players.
“All the players will arrive in Dubai by the evening of September 4, and the first net session will be held on September 5 at the ICC Academy. Considering logistical convenience, players will be allowed to fly into Dubai from their respective cities,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.
