Law and preparation of Ashtami Shraddha
Clean the shraddha site and keep the holy material ready.
Essential materials: Ganga water, sesame, barley, rice, milk, ghee, honey, kheer, puri, pudding and beloved cuisine to the ancestors.
Take a bath and wear clean clothes and fill the heart with pure emotion.
Way of offering
Place water, black sesame, raw milk and barley in a plate.
Mix basil leaves to it.
Make a ring of Kush (grass) and wear it in the ring finger.
Pledge to target the ancestors with water, betel nut, coin and flowers in your hand.
Trup in the name of ancestors and keep reverence in the mind.
The offering of libations of water to the gods
Make a body by mixing rice, barley and black sesame seeds.
Offer these bodies to the ancestors and pray for forgiveness.
Panchbali
Keep five parts separate from Shraddha food.
Offer them to cows, dogs, crows, ant and gods.
Brahmin food and Dakshina:
Eating eight Brahmins is considered special in Ashtami Shraddha.
If all eight are not possible, then at least one Brahmin must eat food.
Provide Dakshina, Clothing and Essential Material to Brahmins after meals.
Pitra Mantra and Lesson
After Shraddha, chant the mantra ‘Om Pitra Devatayai Namah’.
It is considered auspicious to recite the eighth chapter of Gita with this.
