Gehlot Criticizes BJP for Creating Chaos
Jaipur, August 9 – Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot condemned the alleged attack on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s convoy in North 24 Parganas on Sunday, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fostering an atmosphere of “chaos and fear” in the state.
The former Chief Minister of Rajasthan claimed that stones, mud, and shoes were thrown at Banerjee’s vehicle while she was on her way to meet the family of a Trinamool Congress worker, all under the watch of police.
Gehlot stated, “The BJP’s rule has created a climate of disorder and fear. The attack on Banerjee’s convoy today is a clear example of the most despicable form of vendetta politics.” He noted that Banerjee herself mentioned that had her vehicle’s windows been open, her life could have been in danger.
He further remarked, “If a former Chief Minister is not safe even in the presence of police, one can only imagine the plight of ordinary opposition workers in the state.” Gehlot emphasized that this incident is not merely an attack on a leader but an attempt to intimidate and suppress the voice of the opposition in a democracy. Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he asserted that Congress stands firmly against violence and advocates for love and harmony, reflecting the spirit of the nation.
He added, “Yet, the BJP seems unwilling to comprehend this.” Gehlot also pointed out that the alleged attack occurring in the presence of police raises serious questions about the administration’s effectiveness. He urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate notice of the incident, ensure Banerjee’s safety, and take strict action against those responsible.
