ASAP to contest DUSU elections for first time, claims to challenge ABVP, NSUI

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing ASAP is going to contest the Delhi University student union elections with full force. ASAP will contest the DUSU elections for the first time. ASAP believes that Delhi University student politics has long been dominated by some influential people and political parties. Election tickets are now distributed not on issues but on the basis of money, caste and muscle power. The issues on which student politics should be based, such as fee hike, lack of hostels and labs, women’s safety and discrimination, have been kept silent for years.

The student wing believes that whether it is ABVP or NSUI, both the organizations ran the campus like a private contract for years, where they kept occupying the DUSU student union in turns by making arrangements. But they never raised their voice for the interests of the students. They were only busy in pleasing their leaders and shining up their politics. Where the participation of students was crushed and politics only meant banners, money, hooliganism and threats.

Claims on breaking cycle of DUSU

ASAP claims that now this cycle will break. Aam Aadmi Party’s student organization ASAP will contest the DUSU student union elections. The organization has made its intention clear that it will not only contest the elections but will also directly challenge the politics of ABVP and NSUI. ASAP believes that student politics cannot be the fiefdom of BJP and Congress leaders. The leadership should be in the hands of the student who is good in studies, is hardworking, honest and wants to improve his college and university.

ASAP says that now to contest elections, one will not have to stand at the door of any influential leader, nor will money or caste or background be asked. ASAP has made the ticket process completely transparent and democratic. Every student will get a chance, irrespective of his language, religion, caste or economic background.

No money, no nepotism

According to ASAP, any student who wants to contest the DUSU or college union elections will have to complete only three easy steps, first- fill a registration form. The last date for which is 25 August. Second- make a one-minute video or audio in which he clearly states his issues, and third- state his agenda in 200-500 words. For the college union, support of at least 10 students from 5 different sections has to be gathered, and for DUSU, support of 50 students from 5 colleges, whose names, student ID and mobile number are mandatory. The candidate should have full class attendance, no backlogs, and no disciplinary or criminal record.

ASAP says that its politics is based on transparency, accountability and issues. It is a fight to take the leadership out of the hands of a few and bring it back to the students. It is not just an organization, but a movement that wants the university to produce leaders who can become the voice of the people, fight corruption and strengthen democracy.

This time in DUSU elections, neither money, nor muscle power, nor nepotism will work. This time the people’s vision, their intentions and thinking will be leading the path. ASP tells every student, if you still remain silent, then the possibility of change will be delayed again. But if you stand up, stand up and come forward, then the face of Delhi University politics will change forever.
