Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provides crucial updates on Three Key Players, Only One likely for Crystal Palace Match

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta offered a measured update on the fitness of three key players- Bukayo Saka, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jorginho, during his press conference from the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Tuesday.

The Gunners will host Crystal Palace on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium, which will be the final of the London derbies this season.

Mikel Arteta gives update on Bukayo Saka

The primary concern for Arsenal fans was the condition of Bukayo Saka, who was substituted in the 57th minute during the 4-0 win at Ipswich Town after a reckless challenge from Leif Davis. Arteta provided reassurance.

“We have to wait and see how he reacts after the [next training] session, but it’s nothing too serious. If we want to, I think he would have a good chance to play tomorrow,” Arteta said.

Arteta confirmed that Saka has responded positively to the knock and hinted at a potential return, depending on his condition following training.

Calafiori and Jorginho unfit for Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

However, the situation is less encouraging for Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho. Arteta ruled both out of contention for the upcoming match and admitted their recovery timelines are uncertain. Jorginho, in particular, is likely to be sidelined for a few more weeks. The manager described the Italian’s situation as initially “quite scary” but noted improvement in his condition.

Regarding Calafiori, Arteta said the injury was a result of a bad twist and categorized it as one of several “impact injuries” the squad has recently dealt with, adding that some were simply due to bad luck.

As Arsenal navigates a crucial stretch of the season, the return of Saka would be a significant boost, while the continued absence of Calafiori and Jorginho adds to the squad’s midfield concerns.

The North London club will have the much anticipated semifinal first leg tie against PSG and will be hoping to consolidate their 2nd place status in the Premier League as well.
