LONDON (AP) – Arsenal increased its lead in the Premier League to seven points over Manchester City following a 1-0 victory against Brighton.
The match occurred on Wednesday, coinciding with City’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at home.
Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the match for Arsenal in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Meanwhile, Manchester City struggled to secure a win against Forest, despite nearly clinching victory in stoppage time.
Arsenal’s Performance
Arsenal’s right winger Bukayo Saka found the net early in the match, with his shot from the edge of the penalty area slipping through the legs of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. This goal proved sufficient for the Gunners to secure all three points, although they have played one match more than their title rivals.
Manchester City’s Struggles
Manchester City welcomed back Erling Haaland, who had missed their previous match due to a minor injury. However, he was unable to influence the game significantly. City found it challenging to penetrate Forest’s defense until Rayan Cherki delivered a cross that Antoine Semenyo volleyed into the net.
Nottingham Forest countered effectively, scoring through Morgan Gibbs-White after a swift transition that involved Igor Jesus. Although City equalized shortly after with a header from Rodri, Forest regained the lead with a stunning goal from Elliot Anderson late in the match.
Chelsea and Other Matches
In other Premier League action, Chelsea defeated Aston Villa 4-1, with João Pedro scoring a hat trick. This victory propelled Chelsea into fifth place, just three points behind fourth-place Villa in the race for Champions League qualification.
Meanwhile, West Ham secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Fulham in a London derby, with Crysencio Summerville netting the only goal. This win is vital for West Ham as they fight against relegation.
