Army War College, Mhow conducts “Indian Army Central Command Sailing Regatta” at Berchha Watermanship Training Area

Mhow: The “Indian Army Central Command Sailing Regatta”, conducted by the Army War College, Mhow under the aegis of Headquarters Central Command, concluded at the picturesque & serene environs of Berchha Watermanship Training Area on 06 March 2026.

The annual regatta is conducted to coincide with the Joint Capsule of the Higher Command Course. The 22nd edition of the event witnessed participation from 77 members of the Indian Army, Indian Navy & Indian Air Force. Contestants enthusiastically unfurled their sails and showcased exceptional standards of watermanship & competitive spirit.

Preparations for the event which began in February, culminated in the competition leg, which was conducted over three days. The regatta featured multiple competitive sailing categories like enterprise class sailing, kayak singles & kayak doubles, that witnessed contestants displaying their technical skills & sporting spirit. The challenging wind & water conditions tested physical endurance & mental resilience of the contestants.

The highlight of the event was young budding Officer Cadets of MCTE competing with great fervour & enthusiasm against seasoned professionals. The rich experience gained by them by competing against some of the best in the field, will hold them in good stead while performing their duties as future leaders in the Indian Armed Forces. The keen contests & nail-biting finishes bore testimony to the fact that not only had the participants trained hard during the leadup to the regatta, but also indicated towards the meticulous planning & execution put in by the organisers while drawing out the competition schedules & match-ups.

To ensure that the regatta was not only about serious competition, soldiers & their families were encouraged to participate in adventure kayak & paddle boat races, which drew loud cheers & thunderous applause from the audience.

Senior dignitaries including Lt Gen Gajendra Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, SM, Commandant Infantry School; Lt Gen Harjeet Singh Sahi, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Commandant AWC; Maj Gen Gautam Mahajan, SM, Deputy Commandant MCTE & Maj Gen Jitendra Singh, VSM, Dean FOS&L attended the closing ceremony & felicitated the winning teams & outstanding performers. In his closing address, Lt Gen Gajendra Joshi, commended the participants for their exemplary sportsmanship & emphasized the importance of adventure sports in nurturing leadership qualities & camaraderie.

The successful conduct of the Indian Army Central Command Sailing Regatta once again underscores the Indian Army’s dedication to fostering excellence, physical robustness & mental agility among its personnel, thereby contributing to the development of capable & confident military leaders.
