In an inspiring act of bravery and compassion, an Indian Army soldier saved the life of an eight-month-old infant onboard the Rajdhani Express bound for Dibrugarh. The incident occurred on October 13, 2025, when Sepoy (Ambulance Assistant) Sunil from the 456 Field Hospital acted swiftly after the baby suffered a medical emergency mid-journey.
At around 4:30 pm, the infant, who was in coach S4, started struggling to breathe before becoming unresponsive. Panic spread through the compartment as the child’s mother fainted in distress. Among the passengers was Sepoy Sunil, who was returning from leave. Sensing the urgency, he immediately stepped forward to assist.

Assessing the situation, Sunil found the infant had no pulse or respiration. Demonstrating remarkable composure and medical expertise, he began paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using the two-finger chest compression method along with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. After two cycles of CPR, the baby began to breathe again.
Once the child was stable, Sunil coordinated with train staff and the Railway Police to arrange further medical assistance. Upon arrival at Rangiya station, arrangements were made for the infant’s medical evacuation for continued care.
Railway officials and fellow passengers hailed the soldier’s quick action, noting that his timely intervention and professional skills prevented a tragedy.
