Actor Arjun Bijlani has opened up about socialising and building relationships in the entertainment industry, saying he prefers genuine connections over maintaining a constant presence at parties, events and social gatherings.
The Naagin actor said he enjoys meeting people but does not believe an artiste needs to be seen everywhere to build a successful career. For him, professional relationships are important, but an actor’s work should ultimately remain the key measure.
“I enjoy meeting people, but I’m not someone who needs to be everywhere. I value genuine connections more than being seen everywhere,” Arjun said.
He acknowledged that social gatherings play an important role in an industry driven by people and relationships, but stressed that networking alone cannot substitute for an artiste’s work.
“Social gatherings definitely helps. This industry is about people and relationships, but I believe your work ultimately has to speak for you,” he added.
Describing his own personality, Arjun said he does not identify completely as either an introvert or an extrovert. He said he is social when he feels comfortable but also values spending time by himself.
“I’m a bit of both. I’m social when I’m comfortable, but I also enjoy my own space. I think that balance helps me bring different shades to my characters,” he said.
Arjun also spoke about the role of social media in an actor’s professional life. While acknowledging its growing importance, he said online visibility should not come at the expense of personal life or creative work.
“You just have to keep up without letting it take over your life. I try to switch off when I’m with my family and enjoy the moment. Social media is definitely important today, but it can’t replace talent and good work. You need both visibility and substance,” he said.
Despite being active on social media, Arjun said he does not deliberately construct a particular public image.
“I don’t try too hard to create an image. What you see on my social media is quite close to who I am in real life, and that keeps things simple,” he concluded.
On the work front, Arjun recently appeared in Chumbak, which premiered on Netflix on September 10. The series was created by Aatish Kapadia and Jamnadas Majethia (JD Majethia) and also stars Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani.
