Arijit Singh once got a duplex in Mumbai to perform at wedding: Rapper Ikka

Stories about singer Arijit Singh’s simplicity and humility are known in the industry. The singer doesn’t believe in the idea of a materialistic world.

He likes to live away from the media galore, leading a decluttered life. He might be one of the biggest names in the Indian music scene right now, but that hasn’t changed the way he makes decisions in his life. Rappers Ikka Singh and Raftaar complimented Arijit’s same lifestyle when they sat down to have a conversation on a podcast.

While speaking on Honestly Saying, Ikka revealed that Arijit’s earnings are massive but none of it reflects in the way he dresses up or lives. The rapper revealed an incident when the popular playback singer was offered a duplex apartment in Mumbai in exchange for his performance at a wedding.

Ikka shared, “The amount of money he (Arijit)) makes is crazy and the person he is. People in the music industry think of themselves as rich, they even look rich, this includes us, but Arijit can have 100 of us for lunch.”

He talked about an incident when Arijit didn’t care to wait for his car to come and pick him up, and rather used an autorickshaw. He said, “He did a show once, he went out, his car was taking time to come. He sat in the auto in front of him and left for home. I will share another instance. He doesn’t like doing wedding performances. Somebody insisted that he perform. In return, he took a duplex house in Mumbai. One should check how much a duplex house costs in Mumbai. He got that for a 1-1.5-hour performance.”

The two further compared Arijit’s earnings with Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman’s. They discussed how the singer has never spoken about his success, fandom or the kind of money he makes from just one concert.

Ikka said, “Rahman Sir takes Rs 3 crore to do a live show. Just check how much Arijit Sir takes. It’s about timing also, but he isn’t making noise about it—and that’s the difference.”

Arijit rose to fame in Bollywood with the ‘Tum hi ho’ song from the 2013 romantic hit film, Aashiqui 2. He has since sung over 400 songs in various languages in the film industry. The 37-yea-old once mentioned how he loves to wear a simple kurta and jeans, and doesn’t believe in living a luxurious life.
