Apple iPhone 18 tipped to get A20 chip with same AI hardware as A20 Pro: Here is everything we know so far

Apple is reportedly gearing up to expand its recently launched iPhone 18 series with the standard variant. The standard iPhone 18 model will join the recently launched iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Other than that, it’s also anticipated to be joined by the iPhone 18e model.

With the new model, the company is anticipated to bring major changes, especially at the front of the device, where the Dynamic Island is said to be much smaller than its previous iterations. Not only that, but the performance of the device is said to be somewhere near the latest iPhone 18 Pro series despite having the basic A20 chipset. Here’s everything we have on the upcoming iPhone 18 device.

iPhone 18: Performance (Leaked)

According to the details shared by a tipster on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo, the upcoming iPhone 18 will draw its power from Apple’s A20 chipset, which is reportedly being developed using TSMC’s 2nm process. The A20 SoC is expected to be a smaller and less powerful version of the A20 Pro.

He also shared a leaked solder ball map analysed by the tipster himself, suggesting that the standard A20 could have a die size of around 70 to 80 square millimetres. This would make it smaller than the A19, which measures 82.8 square millimetres.

The leaked analysis also points to a five-core GPU, compared with the expected higher core count on the A20 Pro. The CPU is expected to retain two performance cores and four efficiency cores. The A20 could also have 8MB of shared cache for the performance cores and 4MB for the efficiency cores.

iPhone 18: Specs (Expected)

The iPhone 18 is anticipated to come with a 6.3-inch display along with a smaller Dynamic Island, much like the recently launched iPhone 18 Pro. Along with that, rumours also point out that the handset will pack more RAM than the current-generation iPhone 17. Though the RAM has not yet been officially confirmed by Apple, leaks point to the fact that it could come packed with 9GB of RAM, while some reports point to the fact that it could be 12GB.

Talking about the camera, the device may pack a dual camera setup at the rear, whose details remain under wraps at the time of writing. For selfies and video calls, it may come with a 24MP front-facing sensor, which would be a big leap from the current model, which ships with an 18MP sensor. The smartphone is also said to come packed with a bigger battery whose details remain under wraps at the time of writing.

iPhone 18: Launch timeline (Expected)

While Apple has not yet revealed an official timeline for the launch of its upcoming iPhone 18, leaks point to its landing in the Indian as well as the global market around late March or early April of 2027. The device may also be accompanied by the much-anticipated iPhone Air 2 and iPhone 18e during the company’s spring event.

iPhone 18: India price (Expected)

Early reports suggest that Apple could price the phone above Rs 1 lakh in India. However, the final price will depend on Apple’s launch plans, specifications and market conditions at the time of release.
