Apple’s next generation iPhone Pro model, the iPhone 18 Pro series is already in the headlines for its design leak after the Tata Electronics data breach.
The device is expected to look similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, which launched last year. While the alleged first look indicates that there are no major changes incoming, the reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro can arrive with Apple’s first 2nm chipset, a redesigned camera system with variable aperture, a smaller dynamic island and a new in-house modem. So, here are five biggest changes that can arrive.
1. A20 Pro 2nm chip could replace the A19 Pro
Among the biggest changes, the transition from the 3nm A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro to Apple’s first 2nm A20 Pro processor in the iPhone 18 Pro is said to be the biggest change amid ongoing price hike and chip shortage.
As per the reports, the new chipset can offer 10 to 15 percent higher performance while improving power efficiency by up to 30 percent. It will also help in on-device Apple Intelligence features helping AI tasks run faster without relying heavily on cloud processing.
Apple is reportedly moving to Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging, where the LPDDR6 RAM is stacked directly on the same silicon package as the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine. This arrangement could reduce latency significantly while freeing up additional internal space inside the device.
2. Variable aperture camera may bring DSLR-style control
The Apple iPhone 18 Pro is also said to introduce one of the most big camera hardware changes in recent years. While the iPhone 17 Pro offers fixed aperture 48MP primary camera, the iPhone 18 Pro could feature a mechanical variable aperture system. This will allow the lens opening to physically expand or contract depending on lighting conditions.
This will help in improving the low-light photography by allowing more light to reach the sensor while also helping reduce overexposure in bright environments. Along with this, it will also offer more natural depth-of-field effects and better background separation without relying entirely on software processing. However, to place this under the hood, Apple may place a larger camera assembly and as a result reduce the camera island size by 2mm.
And if you are a video creator, it may also enable more cinematic motion blur by controlling exposure mechanically rather than depending on digital processing or external ND filters.
3. Dynamic Island may become noticeably smaller

Adding on, the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro may also shrink by roughly 25 to 35 percent. The leaks suggest that the leaks point to a width of approx 13.49mm compared to the 20.76mm cutout found on the iPhone 17 Pro. The reduction is reportedly being achieved by relocating parts of the Face ID system beneath the display. Apple is believed to have moved the infrared flood illuminator under the active OLED panel, leaving only the TrueDepth camera visible.
The iPhone 18 Pro is also expected to adopt an upgraded LTPO+ display technology, which may offer more granular refresh-rate adjustments and improved battery efficiency compared to the existing ProMotion implementation.
4. Apple’s custom C2 modem could debut
The Apple iPhone 18 Pro is said to feature Apple’s in-house C2 modem. It is tipped to bring a tighter integration with the A20 Pro processor while improving power consumption and network performance. Among the expected upgrades are faster 5G reconnection speeds, improved mmWave support and lower battery drain during mobile data usage.
The report also suggests that C2 modem can expand Apple’s satellite capabilities beyond emergency messaging. Some leaks indicate support for basic internet access through low-Earth-orbit satellite networks when conventional cellular connectivity is unavailable.
The modem is additionally rumoured to include a “Limit Precise Location” privacy feature designed to reduce carrier-based location tracking.
5. Bigger battery
Apple may get the much anticipated battery size increase. The standard iPhone 18 Pro is said to feature a 4,288mAh battery bigger than the 4,252mAh cell reportedly found inside the iPhone 17 Pro. After all the efficiency gains from the 2nm chipset and LTPO+ display, the battery backup is said to feature some big improvements.
In the meantime, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is said to feature a battery between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh, which will be the biggest battery fitted inside an iPhone. Apple is also expected to make smaller design refinements. The Camera Control button may move to a pressure-sensitive implementation, removing the capacitive swipe gestures used on current models. The rear glass may also receive a cleaner frosted finish around the MagSafe ring area.
It must be noted that these details are not confirmed yet and we may have to wait for a few more months to get the exact information. As per the reports, the device will launch globally along with iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Ultra in September.
