‘Any Military Aggression Will Face Very Firm Response’: Jaishankar’s Stern Message To Pakistan During Key Meeting With Iranian Counterpart

Amid rising Indo-Pak tensions, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has made it clear that India will respond with strength if provoked militarily.

Speaking to Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during bilateral talks in New Delhi, Jaishankar stated, “It is not our intention to escalate the situation. However, if there are military attacks on us, there should be no doubt that it will be met with a very, very firm response.”

Jaishankar emphasised that India’s recent military action, Operation Sindoor, was a direct response to a brutal terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22. The cross-border operation, carried out on May 7, targeted nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), and has been described by officials as “targeted and measured.”

Iranian Diplomatic Visit

Araghchi’s visit to India comes shortly after his tour of Pakistan. During their meeting, Jaishankar stressed that while India values regional peace, it cannot turn a blind eye to terrorism emanating from across the border.

“You are visiting India at a time when we are responding to a particularly barbaric terrorist attack… Our response was necessary to uphold the security and dignity of our citizens,” Jaishankar noted.

Saudi Arabia Also Briefed On India’s Stand

On the same day, Jaishankar also held talks with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Aljubeir. The two leaders discussed regional security and the need for a united global approach against terrorism. Jaishankar used the meeting to share India’s perspective on the necessity of strong counter-terror operations, including the recent precision strike under Operation Sindoor.

Operation Sindoor

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh provided key details of the operation during a press briefing on Wednesday. She confirmed that nine terror camps were successfully destroyed with precision strikes. “The locations were selected to ensure zero civilian casualties and minimal infrastructure damage,” Singh said. The operation, she added, was launched to deliver justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and their families.
