New Delhi: Alibaug’s celebrity appeal continues to grow, and the latest high-profile addition to the coastal hotspot is Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. The star couple has reportedly purchased a sprawling land parcel in the scenic town, further strengthening Bollywood and cricket’s growing footprint in the region.
According to a report by The Hindustan Times, Virat and Anushka have bought a 5.1-acre plot of land in Alibaug for an estimated Rs 37.86 crore. Property registration documents cited by LiveMint reveal that the land is located in Zirad village and was purchased from Sonali Amit Rajput, a director at Samira Land Assets Pvt. Ltd. The transaction reportedly covers two adjoining plots and was officially registered on January 13, as confirmed by data analytics firm CRE Matrix.

The purchase comes shortly after the couple was spotted travelling to the coastal belt during a brief visit last month, sparking speculation about a new real estate investment. That speculation has now been laid to rest with confirmation of the deal.
As per the report, the couple paid a stamp duty of approximately Rs 2.27 crore for the transaction. The paperwork was completed by Virat Kohli’s brother, Vikas Kohli, who reportedly handled the formalities on the cricketer’s behalf. This development follows earlier reports that the couple had granted General Power of Attorney to manage the cricketer’s properties in India, including his Rs 80 crore mansion in Gurugram.
At the time, the move fuelled rumours about the couple possibly relocating to the UK with their children, Vamika and Akaay. While neither Virat nor Anushka has addressed those claims publicly, their continued investments in Indian real estate suggest a long-term commitment to properties back home.
This latest purchase also marks the couple’s second major investment in Alibaug. Back in 2022, they acquired nearly eight acres of land through two separate deals worth Rs 19.24 crore from real estate developer Samira Habitats. A luxury vacation home has since been constructed on that property, making Alibaug a preferred getaway for the duo.
Bollywood celebrities who bought properties in Alibaug
Over the years, Alibaug has transformed into a favoured retreat for celebrities seeking privacy away from Mumbai’s chaos. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh purchased a luxury bungalow in Mapgaon in 2021 for around Rs 22 crore, reportedly located within 10 km of Kohli and Sharma’s new land parcel. In 2023, Suhana Khan also invested in a 1.5-acre property in Thal village, buying three houses for an estimated Rs 12.91 crore.
