Anupam Kher Announces 556th Film ‘Out of Fashion’, a Swedish-Belgian Production

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has announced his 556th film, Out of Fashion, a Swedish-Belgian production, describing the experience of working across languages and cultures as an opportunity to discover new dimensions of himself as an actor.

Kher shared a picture with the film’s makers on Instagram on Saturday, reflecting on the universal appeal of cinema and the emotions that connect audiences despite linguistic and cultural differences.

Recalling a line he had once read in a film book — “Cinema has no language” — the actor said he now understood its meaning more deeply while working on a film set surrounded by people speaking a language different from his own.

“A look, a silence, a moment of tenderness!! These need no translation,” Kher wrote, adding that cinema could communicate shared human experiences, including hope, fear and love.

Expressing gratitude for being part of what he described as a beautiful and tender film, Kher said the opportunity had allowed him to enter a new world and discover something fresh in himself despite his decades-long career.

The actor also praised director Jens Jonsson and producers Julia Gebauer and Siri Hjorton Wagner for their work on the project. He acknowledged writer and actor Sunil Munshi for creating the personal story and bringing the team together.

Kher also expressed appreciation for his co-stars Helena Bergström, Bahar Pars and Krista Kosonen.

Calling every film a new beginning, the actor said the project had reinforced his belief that stories rooted in genuine emotion could transcend language barriers.

The announcement adds another international project to Kher’s extensive film career, which spans Indian cinema and productions beyond the country.
