Anthropic launches ‘Interviewer’ to study how professionals use AI

New Delhi: Anthropic has created a new tool named Interviewer that is not meant to be used but to know the user. The AI system, which is based on Claude, is designed to interview people systematically to gain information about how people use artificial intelligence at work and their attitude towards its increasing impact. Users can receive a pop-up in Claude during a week-long pilot asking them to take part in such interviews.

The company has already tested the tool on 1,250 people in various industries who work in a professional capacity. The sample consisted of the workers of general occupations, scientific fields, and creative professions. The anonymised responses have been released publicly by Anthropic, with the purpose being to have a better understanding of the role of AI in the entire economy and future development.

How the interviewer tool works

The interviewer is in three stages that include planning, interviewing, and analysis. Human researchers refine questions that Claude comes up with based on a research target. The AI used in the interview follows the conversational structure and would change its questions according to the responses of the user. After this, the transcripts are sent to the human-AI research team to conduct further analysis.

Most professionals report positive AI impact

The initial results are very promising. Approximately 86% of general workforce members claimed that AI saves their time. Almost two out of three said they were happy with the way AI assisted them in their work. According to many workers, AI is useful in repetitive or time-consuming tasks, as they can concentrate on more demanding duties. But there are fears in case of over-reliance and loss of professional identity.

Anthropic identified two primary types of AI use, including augmentation and automation. Approximately 65 percent of respondents employed AI as a collaborative assistant, and 35 percent gave AI less supervision in doing tasks. This division indicates that the majority of professionals like to work with AI as a partner, but not as an independent replacement.
