Meta Suicidal Alert saved thousands of lives
Meta Suicide Alert System, developed by UP Police Social Media Center in collaboration with Meta Company, makes UP Police the first police agency in the world to develop a model of rapid intervention in cases of suspected suicide through social media.
When suicide-related content is posted on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, Meta immediately sends an alert to the social media center of UP Police Headquarters through e-mail and phone call. This desk, active 24×7, is connected to the UP STF server, which detects the location of the victim and immediately informs the concerned district. After this, timely assistance, rescue and counseling is provided by the local police.
A total of 1,805 lives have been saved through 1,802 alerts received from META between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2025. These include 1,389 men and 416 women.
