Another Blow To India As Ishan Kishan Unavailable For Fifth Test Against England Due To Ankle Injury: Report

IND vs ENG 4th Test: Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan was supposed to join the Men in Blue in England as Rishabh Pant’s replacement, who had sustained a foot injury on the first day of the fourth Test match, but as per a report, Ishan too would be missing out owing to an injury.

As per the Times of India report, Ishan had sustained an ankle injury and had received 10 stitches on his left foot as he fell from a scooty.

“Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty,” a source was quoted as saying to the Times of India.

“Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed, and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle,” the source added.

Kishan, who had last played in this format way back in July 2023, was considered as a like-for-like replacement for Pant.

Kishan did represent Nottinghamshire in the County Championship this year and had put up brilliant batting performances. He had scored 87 runs off 97 balls against Yorkshire. And then against Somerset, he scored 77 runs, in which he had smashed eight fours and two sixes.

Update on Pant

The BCCI took to their official X account and revealed an update about Pant’s injury and said that he won’t be performing his duties as a wicketkeeper but will bat if the team needs him to.

“Update: Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements,” the BCCI wrote on its X account.

Before his injury, Pant had scored a gritty knock of 37 runs off 48 balls in which he had smashed two fours and one six. He fell three runs short of breaking Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring 2617 runs and could have become the country’s highest run-getter in the WTC cycle.
