No rumours were more infamous in Bollywood than those of and Rekha’s alleged affair. For decades now, the two of them have been linked together, with their back and forth a constant reminder to the fans.
However, with the actor being married to and the actress remaining unmarried, things have been much more complicated. The Sholay actor, although, had already debunked those rumours.
Amitabh Bachchan Always Denied His Affair Rumours with Rekha

When chatting with Bhawana Somaaya in 1999, Amitabh Bachchan recalled the many affair rumours he had with name attached to most of them. To him, there was no exact situation where he expressed any interest in the actress.
“If there are instances of my demeanour with the concerned lady which have been publicly seen and were offensive, let them be brought to my notice, with specific and unchallenged proof and I shall deal with it. But don’t throw unmitigated accusations just to make good copy and expect me to retaliate, so you can make even better copy. Let’s not go very far. How many times have you seen us together, let alone behave offensively in public?”
There were some rumours that also suggested Rekha had moved into his house, all of which he found demeaning to even address. “Recently, a prominent film magazine insinuated that I have moved in with the concerned lady in my other home, Pratiksha. Gullible readers view such stories accompanied with photographs of my bungalow, as concrete proof. The outcome is damaging and misleading.”
In a conversation with Similar Garewal, Amitabh also admitted to not meeting Rekha outside of work. “She has been my co-star and colleague. And when we were working together, obviously we met each other. Socially, we have nothing in common. That’s about it.”
He concluded, “There were claims that I had moved in with her at her house and that she had moved into my house. They had photographs of the house where I had been keeping her, so to say, which is just a big joke.”
October 11, 2026 marks Amitabh Bachchan’s 84th birthday. Incidentally, October 10, 2026 marked Rekha’s 74th birthday. The two have often been associated with one another, often in a more controversial light than one that celebrates their friendship. However, Bachchan has never once admitted to any of these rumours.
