Megastar Amitabh Bachchan playfully questioned Sunny Deol about his long-awaited appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati, asking the actor why he took 18 seasons to finally make his debut on the popular quiz show.
A promo released by the channel on Instagram features Bachchan asking Sunny, “Sunny, I want to ask you something. This is the 18th season. What were you doing for so long? Why didn’t you join us?”
Sunny replied that he had been apprehensive about appearing on the show and needed time to think about it. “I was very scared of the show. I had to think,” he said.
Aamir Khan, who will appear alongside Sunny, then joined the conversation, saying he had appeared on the programme six or seven times. Sunny responded with a light-hearted remark: “He doesn’t think, I do.”
Aamir and Sunny are set to feature on the show to promote their upcoming film Batwara 1947. Directed with Sunny in the lead, the drama also stars Shabana Azmi, Preity G Zinta, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.
The film is set against the backdrop of Partition and follows a family whose life is disrupted by violence, fear and forced migration. The project also marks Preity Zinta’s return to the screen after an eight-year gap.
Batwara 1947 is reportedly inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. The Punjabi title broadly conveys the idea that visiting Lahore is an essential experience.
Meanwhile, Kaun Banega Crorepati is the official Hindi adaptation of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? franchise. Bachchan has hosted the show throughout its run except its third season, when Shah Rukh Khan took over as host.
The show features contestants answering multiple-choice questions with the help of lifelines when required. The 18th season is set to premiere on August 10 on Sony Entertainment Television.
