Veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra has officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on September 4, 2025. The 42-year-old was last seen playing for India in 2017 while his last outing in the (IPL) was for Lucknow Super Giants in 2024. His retirement decision was influenced by injuries and the fact that the young and new players should get the opportunity.
Amit Mishra has played for around 25 years, including domestic, international and the IPL. He started his cricketing journey with Chandigarh and was later shifted to Haryana. Mishra made his international debut in an ODI match against South Africa in Dhaka during the TVS Cup in 2003. He went on to play 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20I matches for India taking 156 wickets in all three formats combined.

During his statement, Amit Mishra showed his gratitude towards BCCI and Haryana Cricket Association for giving him a chance. ‘These 25 years of my life in cricket have been nothing short of memorable. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, the administration, the Haryana Cricket Association, the support staff, my colleagues, and my family members who were with me all this while,’ Mishra was quoted as saying by ANI.
‘I would like to thank the fans whose love and support whenever and wherever I played made the journey memorable. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings, and each moment on the ground has been a memory I’ll treasure for life,’ he further added.
