Amid uncertainity over T20 World Cup participation, Washington Sundar resumes batting practice

New Delhi: In what comes as good news for Team India, dashing all-rounder Washington Sundar has started practicing batting at the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, amid uncertainty over his T20 World Cup participation. Sundar, who was ruled out of competitive cricket due to rib discomfort, took a positive step towards his recovery, mentions a report in Times of India.

The report further mentions that the star all-rounder practiced batting for a good 30 minutes, though the southpaw experiencing some discomfort in his rib area. Initially, his medical reports said that he had sustained a muscle tear in the rib area but later it was confirmed through scans that he suffered a mild fracture, along with strain which will take some time to heal.

Though he has not been officially ruled out of the showpiece event starting on February 7 with the Indian team keeping all hopes alive but his participation from the first match against the USA is still under doubt. If he is able to make it in the middle of the tournament as well, it will be a big boon for India as Sundar to be match fit just before the commencement looks a bit difficult.

BCCI keeping hopes alive

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping their hopes alive and maintaining a patient approach as far as Sundar’s participation in the showpiece event is concerned. The report further mentions that in the first week of February, there will a assessment done to ascertain whether he will be able to participate and take the pressure of a big ICC event or not.

But it is being learnt that Sundar is still in the scheme of things especially for the high-octane clash between India and Pakistan on February 15. If he is able to make it for the contest, it will be a big boon for India.
