What is the Kantara mimicry controversy involving Ranveer Singh?
At the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa on November 30, 2025, Ranveer Singh imitated the iconic Daiva scene from Kantara on stage. The video went viral and drew massive backlash from the Kannadiga community who felt the sacred scene had been disrespected. Ranveer later apologised on Instagram saying his intention was only to highlight Rishab Shetty’s incredible performance and that he deeply respects all cultures and traditions.
After the controversy an FIR was filed against Ranveer Singh for hurting the sentiments of the Kannadiga community. Ranveer approached the Karnataka High Court in February seeking relief. The court directed authorities not to take any coercive action against him at the time.
What is the Don 3 controversy and how did it start?
In 2023, makers officially announced Ranveer Singh as the lead star of Don 3, directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Excel Entertainment. However, reports later claimed that Ranveer stepped away from the project just before shooting was expected to begin. Farhan Akhtar and his business partner Ritesh Sidhwani reportedly approached industry bodies and claimed they had already spent over Rs 45 crore on the film’s pre-production.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees has issued a non-cooperation directive against him over his exit from Don 3, effectively banning him from working with over five lakh industry members.
