In this vote held in the 100-member Senate, the proposal fell by 52 votes against 47. Most of the members in the Republican Party-dominated Senate supported Trump’s war policy. Thus, the Democrats’ attempt to limit the president’s military powers failed.
The Senate approved Trump’s argument that Iran is a threat to the peace of the region and military action against it is necessary. This support received five days after the start of military action is a big relief for the Trump administration.
