Ahmedabad. A private ambulance suddenly caught fire early Tuesday near Modasa town in Gujarat’s Aravalli district, killing four people, including a newborn baby, a doctor and a nurse. The accident occurred around 1 am when the one-day-old baby, who was sick after birth, was being taken from a private hospital in Modasa to a big private hospital in Ahmedabad for further treatment.

Police Inspector DB Vala said that the child’s father Jignesh Mochi (38), Ahmedabad resident Dr. Shantilal Rentia (30), and Aravalli resident nurse Bhuriben Manat (23) were sitting in the rear part of the ambulance, where the fire spread rapidly. However, the driver and two relatives of the child who were sitting in the front seat had a narrow escape.
Why did the fire break out? What is the reason behind the accident?
It is not yet clear how the fire started. According to the police, the ambulance suddenly caught fire due to some unknown reason. It was seen in the CCTV footage that the driver realized the fire at the rear and took the car slowly towards the petrol pump, but by then it was too late. Gaurang Mochi and Geetaben Mochi, two relatives of ambulance drivers Ankit Thakor and Jignesh Mochi, got burnt in the accident.
