Chhattisgarh Education Department has instructed schools to count stray dogs. Under this order the headmaster will be the nodal officer. Teachers unions have opposed this non-academic work saying that it will affect studies.
Raipur: The education department has said that headmasters and principals will have to report the number of stray dogs coming into the school premises at regular intervals. After this, teachers unions have started protesting. Chhattisgarh’s education department has issued this strange instruction to control stray dog attacks in schools. The instructions state that the exact number of dogs roaming in the school premises should be reported in detail from time to time. However, teachers unions have expressed strong protest against this instruction.
Following criticism from the Supreme Court over control of stray dogs, Chhattisgarh has appointed headmasters and principals as nodal officers. The unions allege that many non-academic responsibilities are being imposed on teachers in addition to their regular duties.
The unions say that other work is being assigned to teachers in such a way that they are not able to concentrate properly on academic matters. The organization also said that teachers should be given such an environment in which they can concentrate on matters related to teaching.
