Abus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims skidded off the road in Jammu and Kashmir’s in Kangan area of Ganderbal district. According to the reports, the bus accident happened on Tuesday morning when pilgrims were returning from the Amarnath Yatra, in which, 39 people got injured.
Sources from the field reported that bus driver lost control when bus skidded off the road while taking a sharp turn. The bus fell into a house in Hariganwan. Though, there was no one in the house, but property got extensively damaged. However, it stopped the bus from falling into Sindh River, and averted major loss of lives.
The locals were quick to help and rescue pilgrims, and later all 39 pilgrims including driver were admitted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Sharing details of the accident, a senior police officer said, “Soon after the accident was reported, rescue teams, Jammu and Kashmir Police reached the spot and with help of residents, successfully rescued all pilgrims.”
All the injured were evacuated to hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition. According to officials, most of the pilgrims suffered minor injuries and are undergoing treatment.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also took cognizance of the incident, and ordered officials to provide adequate help. In a post on micro-blogging site x, formerly twitter, LG Manoj Sinha said, “Spoke with Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, and health officials and inquired about the health condition of Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims injured in the unfortunate road accident earlier this morning at Ganiwan, Ganderbal. 39 pilgrims returning after Darshan of Baba Barfani sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at SKIMS.”
“I pray to Lord Shiva for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees,” LG Manoj Sinha added.
Till now, over 4.15 lakh pilgrims have visited holy cave since Amarnath Yatra 2026 commenced on July 2. The Yatra will conclude on August 28.
