Amaal Mallik has made it obvious that he has no close connection with his uncle, Anu Malik, particularly in light of the sexual harassment claims made against him.
In addition to sharing his opinions on the matter, the singer said that the charges against Anu Malik profoundly embarrassed him.
Amaal Mallik explained in an open interview with Siddharth Kannan that he never thought of Anu Malik as a close relative and purposefully kept quiet about the matter. “I didn’t talk or support Anu Malik when he was accused during the MeToo movement. It was not my concern because I don’t consider him my family. I was very embarrassed when he was accused of these things. We never had a relationship. But I think if so many people raised their voice against him, I believe there must be some truth to it. Why would people come and say it otherwise? There is no smoke without fire. Five people can’t talk against the same person,” he said.
Amaal Mallik keeps a firm distance from Anu Malik and his family, even if they share a last name and work environment. The relationship is based on professional rivalry rather than familial affection, he disclosed, adding that he does not attend their family events or stay in touch, while being courteous when they do cross paths in public.
Amaal Mallik shared, “I am respectful towards him when I see him in public. But after knowing his wrongdoings, I am not in good terms with him. I don’t have any relationship with his family. I haven’t met them in years. I don’t attend parties. They were invited for Armaan’s wedding. They had come too. It is more like professional rivalry.”

For the unversed, many women accused Anu Malik of inappropriate behaviour, and the accusations came to light during the height of the MeToo movement in India. Amaal Mallik, who has collaborated with a number of female artists, reportedly voiced worry to his father that would he face similar charges. “Once my dad asked me if I too will be dragged in this movement. I said, there is no chance. I can never be the person who will ask for physical favours in return of songs. All the girls worked with me have felt safe,” he recalled.
