New Delhi: The Telugu film industry is mourning the loss of Allu Kanakaratnam, the matriarch of the Allu family and wife of legendary actor and Padma Shri awardee Allu Ramalingaiah. She passed away in the early hours of Saturday (August 30) at 1:45 AM, aged 94, after prolonged age-related health issues.
Her death has left the Allu family, one of the most influential in South Indian cinema, in deep grief. She was the grandmother of superstar Allu Arjun and actor-producer Ram Charan, both of whom are rushing back to Hyderabad to be with their family. According to reports, the Pushpa 2 star’s family is travelling from Mumbai, while the RRR actor is returning from Mysore.

The Telugu film fraternity has been shaken by the news, with tributes pouring in from across the industry. Many Tollywood celebrities are expected to visit the family to offer their condolences and pay their last respects. The body of Allu Kanakaratnam has been placed at producer Allu Aravind’s residence for public viewing from 9 AM, allowing fans, friends, and colleagues to bid farewell.
Arrangements are being overseen by megastar Chiranjeevi, her son-in-law, who is personally ensuring that the final rites are carried out with dignity. The cremation is scheduled to take place this afternoon in Kokapet, with close family members and industry figures in attendance. Pawan Kalyan and Naga Babu, currently in Vizag for a public meeting, are also expected to reach Hyderabad by Sunday to join the family in their time of loss.
Upon hearing the news, her grandson and star hero Ram Charan immediately cancelled the ongoing Peddi shoot in Mysore. He will be reaching Hyderabad very shortly. Icon Star Allu Arjun, who is currently in Mumbai shooting for Atlee’s film, will also be heading to Hyderabad soon.
Allu Kanakaratnam’s passing has been described as the end of an era for one of Telugu cinema’s most respected dynasties. Known for her strength, warmth, and the values she upheld within the family, she was a source of inspiration and guidance across generations.
