Ignoring the bite of a stray dog in Aligarh’s Khair area proved costly for a 23-year-old youth. In just 14 hours his condition deteriorated and rabies like symptoms appeared. This case is a warning of the increasing danger of stray dogs.
Aligarh. The menace of stray dogs is continuously scaring people in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The latest case has come to light from Utwara village of Khair area, where the bite of a small dog proved fatal for a 23-year-old youth. A small carelessness in the treatment made the situation such in just 14 hours that even the family members were stunned to see the condition of the young man.
I made a big mistake by mistaking it for a minor wound.
23-year-old Ramkumar alias Ramu, resident of Utwara village, was bitten by a stray dog in the street on the evening of 20 December. The wound was not deep, so Ramkumar took it lightly and just washed it with soap and water and left it. Neither did he get anti-rabies injection nor did he consult a doctor. Everything remained normal till the next morning, he even ate food.

Situation changed in 14 hours, scary scene
At around 12:30 pm, suddenly Ramkumar’s health started deteriorating. He started sticking out his tongue, doing strange things and trying to pounce on the family members. The family members were shocked to see the young man screaming. Seeing the situation going out of control, he was tied with ropes and taken to Khair Community Health Centre.

Doctors expressed fear of rabies
CHC Khair’s doctor Rohit Bhati said that the mental and physical condition of the youth is pointing towards symptoms of rabies. His condition was deteriorating rapidly, so he was immediately referred to a higher center in Delhi for better treatment. Doctors clearly said that not getting anti-rabies injection after a dog bite can be fatal.
72 thousand bite cases in seven months
The problem of stray dogs is becoming very serious in Aligarh. According to a report, in just seven months between January and July, about 72,000 people have been bitten by dogs. Among these, the largest number are children and elderly people. According to Municipal Corporation data, there are about 60 thousand stray dogs in the city, due to which the risk of rabies is continuously increasing.
Despite arrangements, danger remains
Anti-rabies clinics and castration and vaccination centers are being run by the Municipal Corporation, but despite this, the cases of dog bites are not decreasing. Ramkumar’s case is once again a warning that never take a dog bite lightly and get complete treatment immediately, otherwise a small carelessness can cost your life.
