23-year-old Ramkumar alias Ramu, resident of Utwara village, was bitten by a stray dog ​​in the street on the evening of 20 December. The wound was not deep, so Ramkumar took it lightly and just washed it with soap and water and left it. Neither did he get anti-rabies injection nor did he consult a doctor. Everything remained normal till the next morning, he even ate food.

Situation changed in 14 hours, scary scene

At around 12:30 pm, suddenly Ramkumar’s health started deteriorating. He started sticking out his tongue, doing strange things and trying to pounce on the family members. The family members were shocked to see the young man screaming. Seeing the situation going out of control, he was tied with ropes and taken to Khair Community Health Centre.

Doctors expressed fear of rabies

CHC Khair’s doctor Rohit Bhati said that the mental and physical condition of the youth is pointing towards symptoms of rabies. His condition was deteriorating rapidly, so he was immediately referred to a higher center in Delhi for better treatment. Doctors clearly said that not getting anti-rabies injection after a dog bite can be fatal.

72 thousand bite cases in seven months

The problem of stray dogs is becoming very serious in Aligarh. According to a report, in just seven months between January and July, about 72,000 people have been bitten by dogs. Among these, the largest number are children and elderly people. According to Municipal Corporation data, there are about 60 thousand stray dogs in the city, due to which the risk of rabies is continuously increasing.

Anti-rabies clinics and castration and vaccination centers are being run by the Municipal Corporation, but despite this, the cases of dog bites are not decreasing.
