Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has voiced concern over the devastating floods in Assam, urging people to support relief efforts and expressing solidarity with those affected.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Tuesday, the actress said the annual flooding continues to have a severe impact despite recurring every year.
“Right now, floods are affecting so many parts of our country with Assam being among the hardest hit, facing an incredibly challenging time,” Alia wrote.
“More than 60 lives have been lost. Lakhs of people have been displaced. Entire families have lost their homes, their land, their livestock… and for some, even the people they love. It happens every year and it still catches us off guard,” the actress added.
Calling for immediate assistance, Alia said, “Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery. If you’ve been wondering how you can help, I’ll be sharing a few ways we can support relief efforts over the next few days, through organisations working on the ground,” ending her message with the hashtag “#CircleOfHope”.
Alia is among several film personalities using their platforms to raise awareness about the crisis. Actress Bhumi Pednekar has also appealed for support for relief efforts in flood-hit Assam. Recalling collective relief initiatives in Punjab last year, she shared videos on Instagram highlighting the situation in the state, including the displacement of several villages and the rising death toll.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan has reportedly partnered with a fan club in Assam to provide relief in flood-affected areas. As per India Today, Salman will distribute food, shelter and other relief materials through his NGO Being Human. He will also help in rebuilding schools and hospitals.
