5 non-venomous snakes found in the air conditioner (AC) of a house in Thiruvananthapuram. The rescue team opened the AC and caught 4 snakes, while one escaped. The captured snakes were later released safely.

Thiruvananthapuram: Not one or two, but five snakes were found in the air conditioner (AC) installed inside a house in Srikaryam area of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The incident took place at the house of Madhav J Panikkar, a resident of Cheruvayakal in Srikarayam, who works at Technopark. When Madhav returned home from work in the evening, he saw something like a tail hanging below the AC of his bedroom. When he lit the torch and looked, he realized that it was a snake. Seeing this the family members got scared. He immediately called famous snake catcher Vava Suresh, but could not contact him. After this, he called Roshni, the snake rescue officer of the forest department. On the request of Roshni, snake catcher Gautam, associated with ‘Sarpa’ app, immediately reached the spot.

4 were caught, one escaped

After looking at it in the torch light, it was found that these are ‘Komberi’ or ‘Vilunni’ species of snakes, which do not contain poison. Gautam understood that it was not possible to remove the snakes without opening the AC. After this an AC technician was called. When the AC was opened, there were five snakes sitting inside.

It is believed that these snakes had entered through a hole in the wall near the external water pipe of the AC. After hours of effort, four snakes were caught, but the fifth snake escaped from the outer pipe. The branches of the tree near the house were leaning on the roof, perhaps due to this the snakes reached the AC of the house. The four captured snakes were later released in a secluded bush area.
