Alert in Punjab as missile debris found in Amritsar village amid India-Pakistan tensions; no casualties reported

PTC Web Desk: Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir, panic spread in Jethuwal village near Kathunangal on the Amritsar-Batala road early Thursday morning after remnants of a suspected missile were discovered scattered across the area.

According to local residents, the incident occurred around 1.30 am when multiple parts of a cylindrical object, believed to be a missile, were found in fields and even in some homes. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

A large 5-foot-long cylindrical missile-like object was discovered in the agricultural fields of two farmers. Villagers quickly alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from local police and forensic teams.

Maninder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural), stated that there was no visible explosion or ground impact at the site. He said residents didn’t hear any blast sound in the village. The object was simply lying in the field when it was found. The origin of the missile-whether Indian or Pakistani-had yet to be confirmed. The Army has been informed.

Simultaneously, residents of Amritsar city reported hearing three loud explosion-like sounds around the same time, leading to widespread concern. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Amritsar Police Commissioner, confirmed that although the noise was reported, there were no incidents or damage in the city.

In response, the district administration reiterated its appeal for calm and confirmed that nighttime blackout measures had been re-implemented as a precaution.
