Neeraj Pandey is set to work with Akshay Kumar again for the fifth time in his career. After working together on Special 26 (2023), Baby (2015), Toilet: A Love Story (2017) and Naam Shabana (2017), the duo are coming together for the filmmaker’s next, which is a biopic on RD Burman. The late music composer is the son of the legendary SD Burman. According to several reports, Farhan Akhtar is set to play Burman in the upcoming film, and Akshay will make a special appearance in the musical. Even though Akshay’s role is small, he will appear as a key part in the biopic.

According to a Pinkvilla report, and Neeraj are reuniting after nearly a decade for the biopic. The source told the portal that it didn’t take much for Akshay to be convinced of the role in Pandey’s film. They added, “The moment Neeraj narrated the role, Akshay agreed to be a part of the film. It’s a special appearance, but one that carries a lot of weight in the story.”

Pandey is directing the biopic, and Farhan’s Excel Entertainment is co-producing the feature film. The musical is in the pre-production stage as the team is working on music sittings to recreate and celebrate the younger Burman’s timeless compositions. The biopic is supposed to begin filming in September and will have a large ensemble cast, which will be announced shortly.

Besides the Burman biopic, is set to play another musical legend, Pandit Ravi Shankar, in the four Beatles biopics, directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Actors Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan are playing Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, respectively. The Hollywood films, releasing in 2028, are expected to shoot in India, when the iconic British band arrived in 1968 at Rishikesh to study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Last seen in the Bollywood comedies Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle, Akshay is awaiting the release of Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, in which he reunites with Main Khiladi Tu Anari co-star Saif Ali Khan. He also has features Golmaal 5 and Samuk in the works and will play Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Marathi film Vedaat Maratha Veer Daudale Saat. The status of the much-awaited comedy Hera Pheri 3 is unclear, with no promising updates of late.
