Dhurandhar Fa9la Sequence: Akshay Khanna’s strong screen presence in Dhurandhar has given his fans a chance to be happy. In this, his Fa9la sequence is going viral. This has emerged as one of the biggest talking points of the film. Not only is the character of Rehman Dacoit being liked by the audience, people have also fallen in love with his looks. However, many people do not know that the outfit seen in this character was not even imagined.
In conversation with Digital Commentary, costume designer Smriti Chauhan revealed that the costume plan for Aksha Khanna was completely different. Akshay was to be seen mostly in Pathani – quite simple, isn’t it? But the actor felt that there was something missing in this method. Smriti told that the Hungama actor himself had some very important inputs, that we should not forget that he is also down to earth.
That one piece of advice completely changed the character’s costume journey. Smriti said that soon after, clothes were designed to portray the political character of Rahman Dacoit throughout the film. “It felt very right from our perspective, because we also see him grow in the film, when he joins a political party later in the story. So, we had a journey where we see him distressed in linen and denim, and then in a silk-wool pathani, which is one of the most important looks of the film.”
Additionally, the process of finalizing the look did not happen immediately. Smriti told that even after the first look test, Akshay was not sure. “He had a first look test, and a few weeks later we were called in for a meeting. He said, ‘I’m not sure if we should go ahead with this,’ and we were a little confused.” After this there was further conversation about the background with the character. He further said, “Then he told that we cannot forget that he (Rahman dacoit) has come from the streets and there should be some roughness in his personality.”
Akshay Khanna’s Fa9la song goes viral
One of the most watched scenes of Dhurandhar is Rehman vibing on Fa9la. Last minute changes were made to this iconic moment as well. Smriti told that in the original plan everyone was to wear black clothes, but this idea was changed due to cultural authenticity. “Initially, the idea was that all the dancers would wear black outfits. But if you look at the original Baluchis, they wear a lot of white. So Aditya sir suggested that we should go for white because that is the original look.
With dozens of dancers dressed in white in the scorching heat, the team faced a huge challenge. “That’s when we decided that Akshay should wear all black, while all the dancers would wear white. Rehman Dakat had received the Sher-e-Baloch award, so we had to make him stand out. We discussed what color shades to give him, but I was certain that he should be in black. Everyone quickly agreed, and keeping it in touch with Balochi culture, I chose a Balochi Pathani dress for him.
Aditya Dhar gave inputs
Apart from this, director Aditya Dhar remained closely involved in the entire process. Talking about the idea behind the look, Smriti recalled, “Aditya sir always knew that whatever was said or done, when Rahman Dacoit entered, people would stop. I think we have achieved that.” Judging by the online reaction and the lasting impact of Akshay’s look, this objective was clearly visible on screen.
