Akka Director Dharamaraj Shetty Reveals Keerthy Suresh Came Up With Her Signature Hairpin Killing Style

Keerthy Suresh continues to demonstrate why she is regarded as one of the finest and most versatile actors of her generation. With her latest series Akka, the National Award-winning actress has taken the streaming space by storm, winning audiences over with her compelling portrayal of Bhavani.

From her commanding screen presence and fierce action sequences to the vulnerability and emotional depth she brings to the character, her performance has struck a chord with viewers.

Speaking about Keerthy’s portrayal of Bhavani, director Dharamaraj Shetty said, “Any actor playing Bhavani’s character needed to embody the duality in the character of being a queen and a gangster, a character with a gentle, forgiving side and also a harsher, fierce side. And Keerthy Suresh played this perfectly. She is 100 percent believable when she plays the soft side and equally convincing when she is kicking ass.”

He further added, “There was no doubt about Keerthy’s acting skills, but what was exciting to see was her performing all the action. The grace and the fierceness with which she did them was fun to witness. She brought in so much of her personality to the action. For example, her signature style of killing her enemies with her hairpin was a brilliant idea that all came from her.”

Akka is all about powerful women, gang wars and a battle for control, with Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte facing off in a crime drama set in the 1980s. Set in the fictional South Indian city of Pernuru, where women have ruled for 800 years, the series brings a different setting and power structure to the gangster genre.

At the heart of Akka is the clash between Bhavani, played by Keerthy Suresh, and Rudra, portrayed by Radhika Apte. Both women are strong-willed and determined to get what they want, but their contrasting ambitions threaten to turn Pernuru into a battleground. Apart from Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, Akka features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar, Vishal Nair and Monica Panwar in key roles.
