Now the latest decision of the court in this much-discussed case has once again brought the entire episode into the center of discussion.
Case will be filed against the accused
The UP government has suffered a major setback in the famous Akhlaq mob lynching case of Noida. Noida’s Surajpur court has rejected the state government’s plea to withdraw the case registered against the accused in the Akhlaq murder case. The court clearly said that the government’s petition is baseless and unimportant, hence the case against the accused will continue. During the hearing held on Tuesday, the court made it clear that the legal process in this case cannot be stopped and the trial of the accused should continue.

A heart-wrenching incident happened 10 years ago
This case is of 28 September 2015, when Mohammad Akhlaq was beaten to death by a mob in Bisahada village of Dadri in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The allegation was that beef was kept in the refrigerator of Akhlaq’s house. In this attack, Akhlaq died on the spot, while his son Danish was seriously injured. This incident shocked not only Uttar Pradesh but the entire country.
UP government wanted to withdraw the case
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government had filed a petition in the trial court under Section 321 of CrPC to withdraw the case against all the 19 accused. The government argued that this would restore social harmony. However, the victim’s family strongly opposed this decision and called it a compromise with justice.
Akhlaq’s wife reached Allahabad High Court
Mohammed Akhlaq’s wife Ikraman has challenged this decision of the UP government in the Allahabad High Court. In his petition, he has made a total of 21 people including the UP government as defendants, which includes all the accused. Ikraman says that withdrawing the case in a serious crime like murder is an abuse of law and violates the right to justice of the victim’s family.
Next hearing will be on January 5, 2026
Allahabad High Court has fixed the next hearing date in this case as 5 January 2026. At present, 18 accused involved in this case are out on bail, while three accused are said to be minors. The Akhlaq murder case is once again in the headlines after the UP government’s petition was rejected and challenged in the High Court.
The road to justice is still long
Even after almost a decade has passed, Akhlaq’s family is still making rounds of the courts in the hope of justice. After the decision of Surajpur Court, there is hope once again that the law will take its course in this sensitive case and the victim’s family will get justice.
