Akhanda 2: Thaandavam Box Office Collection: The Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 should have become a record-breaker for Tollywood before 2025 ends.
Expectations were high, excitement was spilling over and fans awaited with optimism to watch their favorite Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna to showcase one of his many masterpieces! However, that was until December 5th. Now, after a lot of drama, court hearings, and setbacks, Akhanda 2 has finally hit Indian cinemas on Friday, December 12, a delay of one week from its initial date. Despite the delay, pre-ticket sales for Akandha 2 hit the roof in India and overseas. However, the day 1 box office collection brings a jarring reality of missed opportunities for Balakrishna and Akhanda 2 in general.
The Rs 100 crore club mark seems a distant reality against a hefty Rs 120 crore budget film.

Akhanda 2 vs Akhanda Box Office:
As per reports, the review for Akhanda 2 has been broadly mixed, which has impacted box office collection on Day 1.
Despite this, Akhanda 2 managed to break the opening record of Akhanda. The total India nett collection of Rs 21.20 crore by Akhanda 1. As per the Sacnilk data, Akhanda, which was released in 2021, recorded a worldwide collection of Rs 29.60 crore, an overseas collection of Rs 5 crore, and an overall India gross collection of Rs 24.60 crore.
Will Akhanda 2 Be Profitable?
Further, another aspect to note is the budget spent in making Akhanda 2. As per reports, the budget for Akhanda 2 could have ranged from Rs 120 crore to Rs 200 crore. To become a hit, as per Koimoi parameters, a movie should give 100% returns on the expenditure. So if Akhanda 2 was made for Rs 120 crore, they will be required to earn a box office of Rs 240 crore, which is double the amount they spent.
Another factor to note is that reports don’t expect Akhanda 2 to join Rs 100 crore club. If this happened, then Akhanda 2 would be in loss. For instance, the makers spent Rs 60 crore to Rs 70 crore on Akhanda 1, and they garnered a gross worldwide collection of Rs 150 crore, making it both profitable and a HIT of that year. Akhanda won the Telangana state Gaddar Award for Second Best Feature Film.
Nandamuri Balakrishna Missed Opportunity:
As per Koimoi data, among senior Tollywood heroes, only Chiranjeevi has managed to hit the 50 crore milestone at the Indian box office on day 1. He achieved the feat with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, which opened at 62 crore net. With Akhanda 2, Nandamuri Balakrishna was expected to join the list, but unfortunately, he missed the bus. The film might try to touch the 40 crore mark, but the 50 crore milestone is out of the equation.
However, it needs to be noted that the weekend holidays could give lift Akhanda 2 closer to Rs 50 crore club.
