New Delhi: The contingent of West Indian players and support staff remains stranded in India following the conclusion of their T20 World Cup campaign. The ongoing conflict taking place over the Gulf states and the Middle East has made it difficult for the Caribbean team to return home after the cancellations of flights.
As many as 5 days have passed since the Windies were eliminated from the tournament after losing to co-hosts India in a must-win Super Eight in Kolkata. The US-Iran-Israel war has forced the airspace in several Gulf states to shut down indefinetly and the International Cricket Council (ICC) is working around the clock to arrange for alternate options for the teams to return home.
Amidst the uncertainty surrounding their return home, players and support staff are taking to social media to make desperate appeals to the authorities to arrange their flight back home.
Recently, Daren Sammy shared a post on social media to highlight the team’s frustration.
I just wanna go home

Now, spin-bowler Akeal Hosein has made a witty remark on the situation, calling on football legend Cristiano Ronaldo to help the team by sending a private jet.
“At this point, I’m better off asking Cristiano [Ronaldo] to send the [jet] and come rescue me yes,” wrote Hosein.
At this point, Im better off asking @Cristiano to send the 🛫 and come rescue me yes.. 😕

Due to the lack of an option for the teams to fly out over the Gulf, ICC is also finding it difficult to arrange for alternate routes. Like the West Indies, the Zimbabwe cricket team and support staff were also stuck in India following their last match in Delhi against South Africa on Sunday. However, a batch of cricketers has reportedly left for Harare via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
