Ajinkya Rahane will be eligible for a monthly pension and other welfare benefits from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following his retirement from international cricket.
Having represented India in 85 Test matches, Rahane falls into the highest category under the BCCI’s retired players’ welfare scheme, entitling him to a lifetime monthly pension along with medical benefits.

Under the BCCI’s player welfare policy, former cricketers who have played 25 or more Test matches receive a monthly pension of ₹70,000.
With 85 Test appearances, Rahane comfortably meets that criterion and will receive the pension for life.
However, the policy includes one important condition. If Rahane takes up a salaried official role with the BCCI-such as serving as a national selector or coach-his pension payments will be suspended for the duration of that appointment and resume once the tenure ends.
Medical cover is also part of the welfare scheme
Beyond the monthly pension, Rahane is entitled to medical insurance under the BCCI-Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) welfare programme.
The scheme provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for former international cricketers, their spouses and unmarried children below the age of 25. Former players can also seek additional financial assistance through the BCCI’s medical benevolent fund for major treatment expenses, subject to the board’s guidelines.
Retirement does not end Rahane’s earning opportunities
The BCCI pension is only one part of Rahane’s post-retirement financial security.
The former India vice-captain is expected to continue earning through brand endorsements, media appearances and potential coaching or mentoring assignments. He could also explore commentary and broadcasting opportunities, while franchise cricket and cricket-related consultancy roles remain additional avenues after his playing career.
For Rahane, the BCCI pension serves as a long-term welfare benefit, complementing the commercial opportunities typically available to former international cricketers.
