A’ja Wilson Reaches 6,000 Career Points As Virtually Unguardable Force For Las Vegas Aces

A‘ja Wilson reached 6,000 career points faster than any player in WNBA history, driving the Las Vegas Aces to a 101-91 home win over the Seattle Storm.

Wilson finished the night on 6,004 points and strengthened the Aces’ strong season start.

The Aces’ centre hit the landmark in her 278th WNBA game, surpassing former Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi, who needed 291 games. Taurasi, the league’s all-time leading scorer with 10,646 points, ended a long WNBA career after the 2024 season.

Against the Storm, Wilson produced 34 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and three blocks. The performance extended Las Vegas’ winning run to four games and lifted the defending champions to an 8-3 record, keeping the team well placed in the early-season standings.

Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon highlighted how Wilson’s offensive skills have grown in recent years. “When I first got here, she’s just kind of this low post [presence], maybe elbow player now and then,” Hammon said. “And just the ability to move her around, so the defense is constantly having to adjust where they’re bringing congestion, where their double comes from. We’re trying to put her in spots where she can see it clearly. The game is really slowed down for her. There’s just really not any offensive area that she can’t do. She can put the ball on the floor, get to her [midrange], put her back to the basket, step out and shoot 3s, shoot free throws. The expansion of her offensive floor game has made her virtually unguardable.”

Wilson reflected on the achievement by pointing to the support around the Aces’ locker room. “I’m just grateful to be able to do what I do with the people I love,” said Wilson. “I’ve seen so many different defenses, different schemes. Yet we still show up every single day, ready to work and ready to be great. I’m just truly grateful for every team-mate I’ve come in contact with that has played alongside me for this 6,000.”

Hammon’s comments underline how Wilson now attacks from almost every area on the floor, which stretches defensive plans. With Las Vegas building form and Wilson continuing to climb the all-time scoring list, the Aces and the WNBA will track how far this scoring pace can carry future seasons.
